Unique ecosystem approach
POLO has a unique Open Ecosystem approach for improving the overall efficiency of port and maritime operations and logistics. We are not just offering digitalization tools to solve daily challenges in ports and maritime supply chain, we encourage co-operation and co-creating, and we enable all this also in practice. In a nutshell, the Open Ecosystem means three things:
1. Call all stakeholders in
When a port or any other organization adopts POLO, they can freely share lower-level user rights not only within their own organization but also with partners and other stakeholders—without any additional costs. This creates a local ecosystem — a POLO hub — where all stakeholders share joint situational awareness through a single tool.
2. Crossing boundaries and borders
Local POLO hubs can be connected to other POLO hubs, not just nationally but also internationally. Ports and other user organizations can exchange data with other POLO users — for example, between ports across the Baltic Sea. This data sharing is not limited to POLO organizations and users but can also include other organizations and even competing systems through integrations.
3. From maritime professionals to maritime professionals
Who knows better what an IT system should do and how it should work than the end users? That’s why every single feature in POLO has been co-developed with actual end users. We can develop private features visible only to the requesting customer, but we usually prefer a model where the result is added to the POLO platform so that everyone can benefit. With this cost-optimized model, we are not only ensuring the best fit with actual end-user requirements but also developing our platform in the direction our users want. POLO — co‑created by maritime professionals to maritime professionals.
