D/S POLO has become an established tool supporting port operations, and its user numbers have increased by nearly 25% this year. A shared platform facilitates the exchange of information on port operations and simplifies everyday cooperation.
“Polo already has more than 1,800 registered users from over 200 organisations, and the application has been very actively deployed not only by ports but also by various stakeholders. Our expansion to Germany and the port of Lübeck has also had a positive impact on the number of users this year,” explains Fintraffic’s Product Manager Petri Kalske.
D/S POLO has been built as an open ecosystem, which allows ports to develop and use the service according to their own needs.
“The service is continuously developed together with the port and various maritime stakeholders, meaning it is developed steadfastly in a user-oriented manner. The service can help to both improve the efficiency of operations and to strengthen operations that promote sustainable development. A new feature this year has included a track planning tool for ports that allows for the creation of a common situational picture and efficient planning of infrastructure capacity using the same tool,” continues Petri Kalske.
In addition to better information sharing and communication, POLO provides forecasts and real-time data, and operational features such as quay and resource planning, vessel notifications, area management, waste receipts, a business intelligence, and service orders for e.g. tugboats, pilots, unmooring/mooring services, and water and waste management.
Fintraffic’s D/S POLO is a part of Fintraffic’s Vessel Traffic Services ecosystem work, in which an effort is made to promote the exchange of data between ships and their logistics chains and the formation of a situational picture through close collaboration between maritime operators and the use of new digital solutions. This also aims to strengthen the sector’s international competitiveness. The development takes place in close cooperation with all maritime operators and logistics chains in the countries with a coast on the Baltic Sea.
